Conceptual photography

11)   In terms of quality, these photos are very strong. They are very true to what they are trying to say. They all seem to be focusing on the appropriate subject. These photos seem to be professionally shot and had a lot of thought going into them. The exposure for these photographs is on point. The themes of these photographs are very strong and tell a deep story.
22)   In all of these photographs, there is one thing that is emphasized more to the viewer. The needle, the shotgun, the one black sheep, the telephone and the images on the wall all seem to pull your attention. Also these photographs show strong contrast. The darer and lighter areas give the images more appeal and interest to the photos. In some of these photos, blurring was used to give attention to one point. Like in the telephone zombie picture, the background is blurred. Also in the sheep picture, the sheep on the very top are blurred.
33)   These photos seem to want to convey internal problems whether it is an addiction, a will to stand out or possibly wanting to be like your ancestors. These images pullout the internal problem into a photo without telling you.

44)   The sheep picture- in this picture, the photographer is trying to tell a story of standing out. In a crowd of people who are all the same, the black sheep stands out from the others.  It shows that even when everyone wants to be the same, he stays true to himself and is accepted.
The coffee photo- in this photo, the person is explaining an addiction without photographing the specific addiction. The photographer is underlying a deeper addiction by telling you its caffeine. He tells the viewer that he has an addition through he photograph but does not show you the exact addiction.

Photograph Critique

Photographer-Jia Guorong

When-03 September 2013

In this image, we see a male gymnast doing a release on a bar. I like how in this photograph we can see the movement of the man. It gives an insight to where his body is turning. One element that is used in this image is the feeling of movement. The image was intentionally blurred to give the image a sense of movement. The depth of field in this image made the background blurry and harder to recognize what is there. The image captures the chalk remnants from the man’s grips to give it more interest. Also this image is shown in black and white so it gives the image high contrast. When I look at this image, I feel confidence. The photographer tells a story of the man’s hard work paying off. This photo gives an impression of strength and dedication.

When- June 16, 2013

In this photograph, we see two white dogs jumping into water and water splashes everywhere. I really enjoy this photo. Who doesn’t like looking wet dogs splashing water? I feel like the water droplets really work for this photo as it gives it interest and a sense of movement.  The photographer was able to freeze time in this photo as he probably used a fast shutter speed. The depth of field in this photograph was focused on the dogs and the background was blurry. Bright and bold colors are shown in this picture as it emphasizes life and happiness. The light was coming from the top left of this image and it flatters the image very well.  This photo probably had a higher exposure being that the image is showing a lot of light. This photo, I believe, has a low contrast. When I look at this piece I get the emotion of happiness and activity. The photographer captures a story in this piece of dogs jumping into water.  This image evokes a happy and excited emotion describing what the dogs were feeling.
